Tigay’s presentation will explore various dynamics that are common in working with the addicted professional as well as practical interventions and helpful tools to engage and treat this population. Frequently, clinicians feel intimidated and concerned about how to best support these individuals in a way which also protects public safety – especially surrounding working with medical professionals. This presentation will also explore common questions about licensure, duty to warn and other major clinical and legal questions to consider when working with the addicted professional.

Upon completion of this webinar, attendees will be able to: 
  • Review common personality and symptoms presentations of addicted professionals
  • Explore important considerations surrounding the legal and ethical nature of treating this population
  • Present different helpful interventions and treatment strategies to utilize throughout the continuum of care in treating the addicted professional

Sara Tigay is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and a certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC) with expertise in cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy. She specializes in working with adults and couples coping with anxiety, depression, addictive disorders, eating disorders and relationship issues such as infidelity, communication and conflict resolution. She is currently the director of outpatient services at Foundations Recovery, specializing in the treatment of the co-occurring disorder population.
