This continuing education activity is approved for 1.25 course hour by EMS World, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE).

Based on the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma’s free online course, Drs. Darrell Nelson and Mark Piehl lead emergency medical professionals through the latest techniques for pediatric airway management encompassing care from the field to the Pediatric ICU. Topics covered include anatomy and physiology, approach to the child having difficulty breathing, foreign body airway obstruction, proper positioning for airway management, airway adjuncts, drug-assisted airway management in children, and post-intubation management.

Dr. Nelson Bio 
Dr. Nelson has over 34 years of emergency medicine experience as a paramedic, RN, and physician. He currently serves as an associate professor of Emergency Medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, NC as well as the EMS and Disaster Fellowship program director. He is active in EMS as a medical director of multiple county agencies as well as at the state and national levels.

DrPiehl Bio
Dr. Piehl is a pediatric intensivist at WakeMed Children’s Hospital in Raleigh, NC. He served as Medical Director of the WakeMed Children's Hospital and Director of Pediatrics at WakeMed Physician Practices from 2009 to 2015. His clinical interests include airway management, trauma, shock and sepsis, ultrasound, critical care transport and sedation. Dr. Piehl also serves as Medical Advisor for the WakeMed Mobile Pediatric Critical Care team and teaches frequently on the pre-hospital management of critically ill children. Dr. Piehl has faculty appointments in the Departments of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina and Duke University. He received his BA from Davidson College, and his MD and Master’s of Public Health from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He trained in pediatrics, internal medicine, and pediatric critical care at UNC. Dr. Piehl is also Founder and Chief Medical Officer of 410 Medical Innovation, a company focused on improving resuscitation in shock, sepsis and trauma.
