Supporting Literacy and Communications: Boardmaker Instructional Solutions
This session identified some of challenges inherent in supporting the literacy and communication needs of all students. The presenters introduced Boardmaker Instructional Solutions as a mechanism to address the immediate requirements of today’s educational climate. These include the need to make literacy curriculum accessible to students of all abilities, the requirement to deliver evidence-based practices, and the opportunities that result from meaningful data collection.

- Participants will be able to describe 3 features within Boardmaker Instructional Solutions that allow them to support the literacy and communication needs of their students.
- Participants will be able to describe what communication and literacy benefits they think their students may receive through the use of Boardmaker Instructional Solutions.
Maureen Donnelly received her B.S. from Cornell University and her M.Ed from The University of New Hampshire. She has worked as an early childhood educator, an adjunct professor at the college level and has provided tutoring to individuals with developmental needs. After leaving the classroom, Maureen began collaborating with the Center for Literacy and Disability Studies at Chapel Hill to create a range of curricular materials that address the literacy and communication needs of students with the most significant challenges. Presently, she is the Curriculum Manager at TobiiDynavox.
Sandy Klindworth is a speech language pathologist with over 30 years of experience working with individuals with complex communication needs. Prior to coming to DynaVox Mayer-Johnson in 2007, she had a long career as a school based SLP and then worked in her own, AAC-focused private practice. She has been a member of the Boardmaker Implementation Team at Tobii Dynavox for 2 years.
