Implementing Boardmaker Instructional Solutions with Students


Have you been wondering what the tab “My Instructional Solutions” is all about under My Boardmaker in your Boardmaker Online or Community account? Maybe you have looked at it and seen the examples but wonder how it works in a classroom. Well, wonder no more! Come join us and meet two of your fellow colleagues as they talk about how they use Boardmaker Instructional Solutions in their respective educational settings. This is your opportunity to learn more about each of the Instructional Solutions (Current Events, Expedition Education, and Book Bridge) ask questions, and decide for yourself if any of these solutions will enhance the learning environment for your students. .1 ASHA CEU available.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe the communication and literacy benefits received by the students that used the Boardmaker Instructional Solutions.
  2. Participants will be able to describe the difference between the 3 Solutions that make up Boardmaker Instuctional Solutions.
  3. Participants will be able to describe what communication and literacy benefits they think their students may receive through the use of Boardmaker Instructional Solutions.

Instructor Bio:

Enid Hurtadoreceived her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and her teaching credential in Special Education: Moderate to Severe from San Diego State University. She worked as a Special Education Teacher for 6 years in California and Colorado with children of varying disabilities, Pre-12. After leaving the public school system, she worked as a behavior specialist for an Early Intervention Program. She currently educates and trains parents and professionals on the use of Boardmaker products for instruction.

Angela Portal is a Curriculum Coordinator at a Center School in Florida for children with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities ages five to 22. Angela has her Masters in Special Education from the University of Miami and over 14 years of experience in her field. Her specific interests in Special Education include augmentative and alternative communication and nature based learning.

Janel Rowe is an ESE Teacher at Bright Horizons School. Bright Horizons is a center school for students with moderate to severe disabilities. She has been teaching in a classroom that consists of 6 students with complex physical and intellectual challenges. They are all nonverbal and use wheelchairs to ambulate. She has been teaching for 18 years in Broward County. She uses Boardmaker Online and Boardmaker Instructional Solutions with my students.
